Dear Friends of Susan, NED and PAWS,
Your generous support last October 4 at the PAWS event resulted in gifts of over $100,000.00 to fight cancer. Thank you again so much.
This year in light of several events and circumstances, especially the loss of PAWS leader, it is not realistic to have another PAWS dog and animal walk. However, in memory of Susan, who was taken from us by pancreatic cancer on November 30, 2009, we feel compelled to continue Susan’s dream of finding a cure for this insidious disease which took her brother, Page; tenor Luciano Pavarotti; and recently, actor Patrick Swayze and writer/columnist William Safire. Justice Ginsburg of the U.S. Supreme Court is reported to have had a bout with it also! The survival rate is virtually nil, although 35,000 cases are diagnosed annually, but there is little, if any research for a cure. The average survival period is about four months.
The UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center in Chapel Hill has a program. Susan believed very strongly in the people at Lineberger where she was treated for over two years principally by Dr. H.J. Kim, her surgeon, and Dr. Richard Goldberg, her oncologist. She loved them and, I believe, they her. (Everybody else did, so why not them?)
We hope you will again be able to help us in seeking to find a cure for this monster that took our darling girl.
Your contribution should be made to UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center with the “for” line showing PAWS/Susan Lamar. We will send your gifts to UNC Lineberger. Please mail as noted below. Be sure to indicate that your gift is in memory of Paws/Susan Lamar.
Thank you so much. Your gifts in memory of Susan toward a cure for cancer will be promptly acknowledged and cataloged by UNC Lineberger.
